When Super Troopers 2 kick-started its Indiegogo campaign last month, the crowdfunding initiative met its $2 million goal in a single day. Yes, that’s $2 million big ones in just over 24 hours. “That’s cool,” you’re probably thinking, “but why’d they keep going?” Because $2 million would convince Fox Searchlight to distribute the picture, but more would (hopefully) make a better movie.
The 30-day campaign came to an end last night at midnight, and the final tally is $4.4 million. According to Variety:
The Indiegogo campaign, funded by over 50,000 contributors, ended at midnight Friday with 77% of the $5.7 million record for crowdfunding for a film, set in by the “Veronica Mars” movie on Kickstarter in 2013. It raised 42% more than the $3.1 million for Zach Braff’s “Wish I Was Here,” which had been the second-largest crowdfunding effort.
Not bad, Super Troopers 2. Not bad at all! But this is Broken Lizard we’re talking about, and it seems they’re not finished yet.
The campaign is still ongoing, with a new goal of $4.5 million set for this afternoon. If they reach it, there will be live bears in the film. LIVE. BEARS.
Where is your God now, Colbert?
