Randy Quaid and his wife Evi have been released from a Vermont jail following their arrest last Friday after attempting to re-enter the United States amid deportation threats from Canada. Although the Quaids were initially held under $500,000 bail each, with prosecutors in Santa Barbara — where the couple is wanted on felony charges stemming from a 2010 trespassing and vandalism arrest — attempting to have them extradited, the judge presiding over the case in Vermont released them without bail on Thursday citing a lack of probable cause.

The Santa Barbara County district attorney’s office claims that the probable cause sheet in the Quaids’ initial case had not been reviewed by a judge because they had not remained in custody following their arrest, and are working on filing the proper paperwork to force them to return to California. But in the meantime, it looks like Randy and Evi will be safe from justice as long as they remain in Vermont. As a matter of fact, it sounds like they might even settle down there.

Randy Quaid said he is looking forward to staying in Vermont with his wife for the time being and said he wants to join the volunteer fire department in the Addison County town of Lincoln, about 50 miles south of St. Albans.

“I’ve always known the facts were what they are, and they are always in our favor,” Quaid said. “I’ve never worried about being found guilty or any of that for any of this because I know the truth, and I knew the facts are going to come out at some point.”

Honestly, Randy and Evi Quaid disappearing in rural Vermont and volunteering at a fire station does not sound like the worst thing in the world for them. They’ll have all the time in the world to make as many sex tapes as their hearts desire.
