This week, it was announced that Amy Adams would be headed to 30 Rock next month to host Saturday Night Live alongside musical guests One Direction. Now, it appears she has locked in another project: a Janis Joplin biopic. The film will star Adams as the iconic ’60s rocker and Dallas Buyers Club’s Jean-Marc Vallee is set to direct.
Once tentatively dubbed Get It While You Can, the movie has changed hands and made its rounds throughout Hollywood for decades now. Various directors, including Lee Daniels (Precious), Fernando Meirelles (City of God), and Catherine Hardwicke (Thirteen), were once associated with the flick.
Interestingly enough, there’s a second Joplin biopic in the works; that one’s being handled by Martha Marcy May Marlene director Sean Durkin and features Nina Arianda in the starring role. It’s unclear, however, which of the two projects has the most rights to Joplin’s material.
