Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is just around the corner, and there’s several things that we know: Ben Affleck is buff; The Riddler and The Joker were almost in the film; Doomsday and Lex Luthor are the primary heavies. Thanks to director Zack Snyder, we also now know why there won’t be a Grant Gustin — the CW’s TV version of The Flash — in Snyder’s DC Comics film universe, and it has much to do with said universe. Or multiverse.
“I just don’t think it was a good fit. I’m very strict with this universe and I just don’t see a version where…that (tone is) not our world,” Snyder told New York Daily News.
The tone Snyder is talking about is the much lighter one employed by the CW. This is in stark contrast to the tone the director is setting with Batman v. Superman, and then the Justice League film which begins production next month.
Ezra Miller is the one suiting up in red for that aforementioned ensemble superhero film, but that doesn’t mean that Snyder dislikes Gustin’s role in the television series. The multiverse is a very real thing in DC Comics lore, one that is even approached in the CW’s take on the comic. It’s that multiverse theory that make sit possible to have several different versions of The Flash.
“Even if Grant Gustin is my favorite guy in the world and he’s very good,” Snyder said, “we made a commitment to the multi-verse (idea), so it’s just not a thing that’s possible.”
