“Things were simpler then.” Warner Bros. has released the first teaser for Blade Runner sequel Blade Runner 2049, produced by a returning Ridley Scott and directed by Denis Villeneuve (Arrival), with cinematography by the great Roger Deakins. Harrison Ford also returns, though we still won’t find out if he’s a replicant or not. Ryan Gosling stars alongside Ford, and the film also features Ana de Armas, Robin Wright, Jared Leto, Barkhad Abdi, Lennie James, Mackenzie Davis, Sylvia Hoek, and Dave Bautista.
Here’s the official synopsis, via Alcon Entertainment and Entertainment Weekly:
Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.
Blade Runner 2049 will hopefully not disappoint sci-fi fans on October 6, 2017.
The feel of this teaser is much in line with the original film (having Roger Deakins there certainly helps), but it’ll be interesting to see how things change with Ryan Gosling in the lead. We’ve heard all of his Voight-Kampff test questions start with, “Hey, girl…”
