Captain America really is just like us normal folks … or at least Chris Evans is. On Wednesday, the actor tweeted a photo of the cover letter he sent out to dozens of casting directors when he was just getting his start in the acting business as a teenager.
The then 17-year-old, who said his dad found the letter, was a junior in high school looking for an internship in New York City back in 1998. He told the many casting directors he submitted his letter to that he had “an intense passion for theatre” and was a “hardworking individual” who was interested in learning “the business side of theatre” after being “actively involved” for seven years.
The cover letter, resume and “humiliating” headshot combo (which Evans sadly didn’t tweet) ended up working for the star. Evans tweeted a follow-up stating that he landed an interview shortly thereafter out of “#dumbluck.”

Whoever said writing cover letters are a complete waste of time lied — or at least they mattered (and worked) back in the 1990s. They especially worked for Evans, whose latest film Captain America: Civil War is the highest-grossing film of the year so far, making over $1 billion at the global box office.
