Eddie Redmayne has been confirmed for the upcoming Harry Potter spinoff, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them. Redmayne was rumored for a role for the past few months, but he’s now officially in as author Newt Scamander. The Hollywood Reporter expands a bit of detail on the role:
Redmayne will play Newt Scamander, the foremost magizoologist of the wizarding world introduced in Rowling’s series of best-selling novels and subsequent films. Scamander will be at the center of the new movie, searching the world for magical creatures to discover and catalog in his “Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them,” which will become a textbook used by Harry and friends in Hogwarts school in years to come.
Rowling had a hand in crafting the screenplay for the film, and David Yates will fill the director’s role, making it his fifth Harry Potter-related film to date. The film will hit theaters in November, 2016, making it a competitor with Star Wars: Rogue One for all that holiday money in December.
