By now, we’ve learned that more than a few dudes’ childhoods are supposedly being ruined by the upcoming Ghostbusters reboot. We don’t really know why exactly, but we only know they are irreparably tarnished by a film they’ve yet to see. Now we’ll have to wait and see how these same disenfranchised and disheartened dudes feel about bluesy rocker Elle King picking up where Ray Parker Jr. and Bobby Brown left off. The “Ex’s & Oh’s” singer and daughter of former Saturday Night Live cast member Rob Schneider is headlining the summer blockbuster’s soundtrack with the release of the soundtrack’s lead single, “Good Girls.”
The tune has the stomp and grit of “Ex’s & Oh’s,” as well as King’s distinctive, swagger-filled vocals. Man, I hope she hasn’t ruined the Richmeister for anyone. That’d be a shame and if people had a problem with her because she’s ruined their memories of repetitive nicknames, they’d be missing out. King is truly a force here and someone to watch as her career progresses. Check out her performance from this year’s New Orleans Jazz Festival as backup if you don’t believe me. It’s worth it.
The soundtrack, set for release when the movie premieres on July 15, features Fall Out Boy with Missy Elliot, Walk the Moon, G-Eazy with Jeremih and Pentatonix, the latter of whom I just assumed only appear on televised Christmas specials. “Good Girls” is available now on iTunes.
