Evangeline Lilly is finally going to be donning that superhero costume teased during the Ant-Man end credits when she reprises the role of Hope Van Dyne (The Wasp) in Ant-Man sequel, Ant-Man And The Wasp, opening July 6, 2018. But will we see her in the next Avengers movie opening a couple months before then? According to Lilly herself, no, but she will be in the fourth Avengers movie, opening May 3, 2019.
As Evangeline Lilly explains in the video below, Wasp isn’t appearing in the third Avengers for the same reason Captain Marvel didn’t have a cameo at the end of Avengers: Age Of Ultron after all and neither The Wasp nor Doctor Strange appeared in Captain America: Civil War. Marvel wanted Wasp to be introduced as a superhero in her own part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe before she crosses over into the other movies.
Here’s footage of the interview from Blastr and a transcription of the relevant quote via Screen Rant:
“I’m excited because it’s essentially going to be, um, the origin of the Wasp. Of course, we’re going to see the Wasp for the first time take on the mantle, and put on the suit, and fly about, and do her thing. Following that one, there’s an Avengers series coming out, I believe it’s a two-parter, and, um, the Wasp won’t be in the first part, she’ll be in the second part because they want to preserve that reveal for Ant-Man And The Wasp.”
More importantly, will she be punching Paul Rudd in the face? When asked, Lilly joked, “All I do around Paul is just punch him in the face. It’s our dynamic.”
She didn’t choose the bug life. The bug life chose her.
