Though it’s not held with the prestige of the Oscars or the Emmys, the Golden Globes are by no means an inferior awards program. They’re a reliably good time, tossing the highest-wattage names in film and television into one big melting pot and then liberally adding alcohol. Someone or other usually takes the podium while inebriated or otherwise under the influence (please, God, let it be Dame Maggie Smith) and says something more candid than the usual soundbite. What’s more, the awards can act as a divining rod to the outcomes of Oscar night, the nominees for which are named shortly after the Globes ceremony.
The nominees of the 73rd annual Golden Globes were announced this morning at the Beverly Hills Hilton Hotel, rousing groggy A-listers from their sleep with news of success or disappointment. Our full analysis of the nominees, predictions of the winners, and what it all means for Oscar night comes later today, and the ceremony airs January 10 on NBC. But for now, scroll on and feast your eyes on the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s best approximation of 2015 on screens big and small.
