It’s official: America loves Harrison Ford angrily pointing at things more than Samuel L. Jackson poetically swearing up a storm.
Thanks to the mega-mega-mega-mega-mega-mega-success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which made more money in 20 days than Avatar during its entire box office run, Ford is now the highest-grossing actor in U.S. history. His 41 films have grossed $4.7 billion at the domestic box office, compared to Jackson’s measly $4.67 billion. The Wrap doesn’t list the number of movies The Hateful Eight star’s been in because no one can count that high.
Ford’s five most popular ($$$) films:
1. Star Wars: The Force Awakens
2. Star Wars
3. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
4. Return of the Jedi
5. The Empire Strikes Back
And Jackson’s:
1. Marvel’s The Avengers
2. Avengers: Age of Ultron
3. Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith
4. Iron Man 2
5. The Incredibles
The competition will remain fierce between the two actors, who surprisingly have only worked together once (1992’s Patriot Games). Ford has a fifth Indiana Jones (probably) and the Blade Runner sequel, while Jackson will star in The Blob, The Legend of Tarzan, Kong: Skull Island, and xXx: The Return of Xander Cage. They’ve got two other actors on their tail, though — The Force Awakens‘ John Boyega and Daisy Ridley, who are #355 and #356 on the all-time list. Boyega’s been in two movies (TFA and Attack the Block), and Ridley’s been in one, but they’re already right behind Uma Thurman, who’s been in 31 films.
No wonder Ford’s so high (hint: it’s not because of his Sabrina remake).
