One Direction fans can be a bit…passionate. So, when the trailer for Christopher Nolan’s WW2 epic Dunkirk dropped on December 13, it was only a matter of time before Directioners chimed in on prominent shots of the former boy band member.
The movie tells the true story of the evacuation of Dunkirk in 1940, the single largest military evacuation in history with over 350,000 troops successfully escaping a rapidly advancing German army. But that’s not what 1D fans came for. The fandom was split heavily between holding a #HarryStylesIsDrowningParty and prematurely petitioning for his Oscar.
All we know is, no one does undying love and rabid positivity better than fans of One Direction, so we compiled a bit of their best reactions below.
First off, seeing Harry twisted the knife for some fans who are still in denial about the end of their favorite group:

And the ones who weren’t out searching got to work on Harry’s “For Your Consideration” campaign:

If you go to see Dunkirk in theaters and hear quite a bit more screaming from the audience than you’d expect at a gritty WW2 drama — outside Saving Private Ryan, Hanks-heads get live — don’t say you weren’t warned.
