‘The Raid’ Star Iko Uwais Dishes Out More Brutality In The Bloody Debut Trailer For ‘Headshot’

In 2012, Indonesian actor and stuntman Iko Uwais burst onto the scene with The Raid: Redemption, one of the most brutal, exhilarating, and innovative martial arts movies in years, and since then everything he’s done has been must-watch entertainment. Man of Tai Chi? The Raid 2? Freakin’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens? Uwais has been assembling quite an impressive resume.

Uwais looks to continue his hot streak in the new action flick, Headshot, which basically sounds like an Indonesian Bourne movie. Here’s the official synopsis…

“A nameless man (Uwais) wakes up in a hospital with severe head trauma, not knowing who he is or what happened to him. Assisted by devoted student doctor Ailin (Chelsea Islan), who nicknames him “Ishmael,” he recovers and tries to regain his memory. Naturally, Ishmael’s past is about to catch up with him, in the form of Lee (Sunny Pang), a drug lord and gang boss whose tentacles reach deep into the police and the penal system. When Ailin is kidnapped and Ishmael sets out to get her back, he finds himself pitted against an array of skilled fighters who may have been his former colleagues.”

It’s maybe not the most original plot, but who cares? Check out that trailer! Guns! Gore! Machetes! Yayan Ruhian! What more could you want from a new Iko Uwais actioner?

Headshot is directed by the Mo Brothers (Timo Tjahjanto and Kimo Stamboel), who helmed the well-regarded (and very bloody) Indonesian genre flicks Macabre and Killers, and have collaborated with The Raid director Gareth Evans. In other words, the carnage is in good hands.

Headshot premiers at the Toronto International Film Festival this week. The movie doesn’t yet have a Western release date.
