The first Hitman movie was an agreeably bland action movie that was more notable for its cast than anything else. So, for the reboot, Fox has decided to make a few changes, starting with the fact that Agent 47 isn’t the hero of his own movie.
Oh, he’s in the movie, quite substantially, but it appears from the trailer that he’s playing a Terminator role to Zachary Quinto’s Kyle Reese, or at least that’s what the movie wants us to believe. If you pay attention, there are some rather large hints that he’s another agent or at least the bad guy. Anyway, the plot is that there’s a scientist, he has a hot daughter who swims topless, Zachary Quinto wants to protect hot daughter while Rupert Friend handles the action-movie heavy-lifting getting at hot daughter to lure out the scientist.
It’s actually a smart move taking the focus off 47 a little; he’s not the most sympathetic or engaging protagonist. His most heroic moment is murdering everybody attending his funeral, for Pete’s sake.
Also, the trailer has a lot of nods to the video game. Stealing some poor shmuck’s pants? Check.
Gory environmental kills? Check.
Silverballers? Oh, that’s definitely a check.
Considering the sheer amount of ridiculous action scenes in the trailer, this promises to be a silly but entertaining movie. We’ll see how well it works out come August 28.
