We may all be suffering from a little bit of Hobbit fatigue after the last trilogy, but most Middle Earth fans would probably jump at the chance to stay in an authentic hobbit hole. Tolkien’s Hobbiton is really one of the only places in fantasy literature that would be a fun and relaxing stay without fear of being killed or bewitched or possibly suffering some unpredictable terror (unless you count the end of the Return of the King novel… Peter Jackson sure didn’t). Anyway, that dream could be a reality, thanks to West Stow Pod, a “glamping” company in Suffolk, England, who recently started a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds to build a true-to-lore hobbit hole on their site.
According to Mashable, owner Jan Lenguel is not a fan of the books himself, but is bringing in Tolkien Society member Alan Baxter to advise on the project and ensure authenticity. The “poddit hole” project would also utilize low impact building techniques and materials in order to keep it as sustainable and affordable as possible.
The Kickstarter has already raised £7,000 of their £50,000 goal, and there are a wide variety of donation levels. For example, £15 will get you an official t-shirt, while £250 will get you a two-night stay and a tour of the local Anglo-Saxon village. So, if your ready to take your Tolkien fandom to the next level, check it out.
