Oliver Stone’s debut appearance at San Diego Comic-Con this year is certainly keeping to the secretive theme of his upcoming film, Snowden.
Deadline is reporting that the downtown location of this secretive, invite-only screening is unknown, and will feature a live appearance by Edward Snowden himself via internet. Snowden, Stone, Joseph Gordon-Levitt (who portrays Snowden in the film), and co-star Shailene Woodley will be holding a Q&A during the event as well.
Comic-Con attendees unable to sneak their way into the unofficial screening will still be able to attend the official panel discussion in Hall H on Thursday. This panel will consist of Stone, Gordon-Levitt and Woodley, as well as supporting members Zachary Quinto and Scott Eastwood.
The film is centered around former NSA contractor Edward Snowden, who in 2013 leaked thousands of classified government documents, including secret surveillance programs being carried out across the globe. This controversial event led to his relocation to Russia where he was successfully granted asylum by Russian authorities to avoid arrest.
The film will hit theaters on September 16, and will also star Melissa Leo, Tom Wilkinson, Rhys Ifans and Nicolas Cage.
