J. Lo Will Play ‘The Cocaine Godmother’ From ‘Cocaine Cowboys’ In A New Movie For HBO

A new offering from HBO has J. Lo transforming into J. Yayo. (No, she’s not marrying Tony Yayo, but it is fun to imagine.)

Variety reports that Jennifer Lopez is attached to star in a film from the pay cable giant centered around the rise and (SPOILER!) fall of infamous drug lord Griselda Blanco. If said drug lord’s name sounds familiar, you might be a scholar of narco-trafficking in the ’70s and ’80s or you might just be a big fan of Billy Corben’s gleefully excessive Cocaine Cowboys documentaries.

Naturally, Lopez had nice things to say about her new project. It’d be a bit rude and counterproductive if she signed on as the lead and as an executive producer to just release an extended fart noise in response to the news.

“I’ve been fascinated by the life of this corrupt and complicated woman for many years,” said Lopez on her upcoming Home Box Office endeavor. “The idea of teaming with HBO felt like the perfect fit for finally bringing Griselda’s story to life.”

At the moment, Lopez is the only name cast for the film, although we’re sure you may have a suggestion or two for who could help round out the cast. J. Lo’s been fairly bullish on expanding her TV presence over the past few years and clearly has not been discouraged by Q’Viva! The Chosen‘s underwhelming reception from anglophone viewers. Lopez’s NBC cop drama Shades of Blue has entered its second season and Freeform’s critically acclaimed series The Fosters (which is produced by Lopez) is midway through its fourth season.
