If Johnny Depp is known for one thing and one thing alone, it has to be his delightfully whimsical characters and the way in which he portrays them. Sure, Johnny Depp has some serious acting chops, and when you toss him into a serious role he does a damned fine job, but that isn’t what the world wants of Johnny Depp. So, Johnny Depp has found a niche for himself being that lovable creep.
One of those roles was as the Mad Hatter from Disney’s Alice in Wonderland. He’s reprising the role in the sequel, Alice Through the Looking Glass, and Disney decided to do something special to promote the movie and freak out visitors at Disneyland. So what exactly did they do? They got Johnny Depp all decked out in costume and makeup as the Mad Hatter and live-streamed him on billboards throughout the resort. The thing is, it was right alongside other, static billboards, with it just looking like a movie poster.
But it wasn’t a static poster at all, oh no, it was actually him. Those boards also had cameras installed in them and Depp could see the park-goers as they went about their time in one of the most magical places in the world and then delightfully freaked them out. Stuff from repeating their names, calling out to them as they passed. They even had bubbles pop out of the top when he sneezed.
