20th Century Fox is in the early negotiation process to get Johnny Depp aboard as star and producer in an adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s time-travel yarn, Fortunately, The Milk, with Edgar Wright serving as director.
Animal Logic Entertainment, an Australian-based company that produced The Lego Movie, are set to produce the film which is said to be a combination of live-action and animation. Zareh Nalbandian of Animal Logic Entertainment will assume the role of producer on the project.
The script is being written by Bret McKenzie, who is perhaps best known as a member of the Flight of the Conchords pair. The book by Gaiman was published by HarperCollins in 2014 and features narration by a child. A selection from the book reads:
“I bought the milk,” said my father. “I walked out of the corner shop, and heard a noise like this: t h u m m t h u m m. I looked up and saw a huge silver disc hovering in the air above Marshall Road.”
Depp is currently starring in this summer’s Black Mass, while Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Scott Pilgrim Vs The World) is currently in pre-production on the film Baby Driver which stars Ansel Elgort.
