Everyone likes Game of Thrones, but did you know A Song of Ice and Fire isn’t the only thing ol’ George R.R. Martin has to his name? Dude’s written all sorts of other stuff, including a series of female-centric short stories entitled In the Lost Sands, which is getting the movie treatment.
Word is Milla Jovovich is in final talks to star as a sorceress in the movie, which is appropriate since she has access to some brand of sorcery that makes her increasingly sexy with age. Justin Chatwin of Shameless also has a role in the film. In The Lost Sands will be helmed by Constantin Werner, who doesn’t have many directing credits to his name, and at this point it’s kind of hard to gauge whether this movie will be a major thing, or go straight to video/streaming, although it’s hard to believe even a bad George R.R. Martin movie wouldn’t receive a big push at this point.
In the Lost Sands tells three interconnected stories about women in and around a desert called the Lost Lands. In one story, a sorceress (this is who Jovovich will be playing) is sent to retrieve the power to become a werewolf, with predictably disastrous results. The second story is a tale of warrior girls, dragons and seduction (hmmm, sounds familiar). The final story involves a barbarian girl being seduced by a witch in a spacecraft, because sure, why not?
It’s unclear if all three or only one of these stories is being adapted. If it were up to me, I’d adapt the lesbian witch spaceship story – that sounds like my kind of fantasy writing.
