McDonald’s decision to revise its famous Hamburglar character was weird, to say the least. Not only do his new digs make him look like an out-of-work hipster, but they also kickstarted our inner Clint Eastwood. (At least, I’d yell at him to get off my lawn if I ever had the chance.) So thank heavens Weinstein Co. is making a nostalgic, don’t-mess-with-the-franchise biopic about the chain’s founder, Ray Kroc. It’s currently titled The Founder, and it’s going to feature Nick Offerman.
Sure, he’s not playing the company’s famous mogul Kroc — that honor goes to Michael Keaton. The Hollywood Reporter says Offerman will instead play one of the McDonald brothers:
Offerman will play Dick McDonald, a control freak who gave into pressure from his brother to let Kroc have more control of the business, only to realize too late he was being pushed out.
The other brother, Mac McDonald, has either yet to be cast. But with a scheduled release for 2016, such news is expected soon. In the meantime, let’s take a moment to enjoy a few prominent points about this tasty morsel of news:
- Someone is actually making a movie about McDonald’s.
- Said movie will put Michael Keaton and Nick Offerman in a room together.
- We get to watch Offerman eat breakfast food again.
It’s a wonderful time to be alive, isn’t it? And since McDonald’s is considering offering its breakfast menu 24/7, we can celebrate this casting announcement appropriately and whenever we want.
