Nick Offerman appeared at BookCon 2015 on Saturday to promote his new book, Gumption: Relighting the Torch of Freedom with America’s Gutsiest Troublemakers. During the hour-long panel previewing his second literary release, Offerman made a point to mention the lack of hair on his face and — more importantly — his understanding as to why it may offend and nauseate his fans:
“I’m so grateful that Ron Swanson and Parks and Rec worked so well that it makes people angry that I would dare look different,” he said at BookCon on Saturday morning at New York City’s Javits Center. “I understand that it’s a compliment when they say it makes them puke when they see me!”
Without the signature mustache, Offerman has tackled a variety of film roles since production wrapped on Parks and Recreation. But don’t fret Ron Swanson fanatics, for the actor says the facial hair will eventually make a return:
“If I keep it off for a while, then maybe I can bring it back and play some sort of bumbling sheriff!” he teased.
The event at New York City’s Javits Center was moderated by John Hodgman and featured a surprise appearance by Paul Rudd. Gumption: Relighting the Torch of Freedom with America’s Gutsiest Troublemakers was released last Tuesday.
