The People v. O.J. Simpson has proven that we love to comb over past notorious murders. Now it’s time to revisit Pamela Smart, who is in jail for getting her teenage boy toy to kill her husband back in 1990. In 1996, Nicole Kidman played a version of Smart in the film To Die For, and years later, Smart still has a problem with that performance.
To be fair, though, according to People, Smart is currently serving a life sentence in prison, so she’s had a lot of time to ruminate on this. And she’s giving an interview for a TV show called Murder Made Me Famous, so doing that would dredge up old grudges, I’m sure.
Smart calls Kidman’s performance “embarrassing and inaccurate” and takes issue with the fact that Kidman never contacted her while researching the part. As a result, Smart says that the actress misrepresented her:
“I mean, she played me as like a complete airhead. And I’m not that person. So it’s hard because I’m constantly hated for being something. I’d probably hate myself if I didn’t know myself, based on what they say.”
Smart would also probably say that she’s not a murderer, as her conviction would have you believe, since she maintains her innocence to this day.
