Before you let out a mournful Chewbacca cry, know that this news has a hopeful ending. Peter Mayhew, the seven-foot-three-inch tall actor who played Han Solo’s furry companion in the original Star Wars trilogy, was hospitalized on Monday with pneumonia. The news was confirmed on his Twitter account, but Mayhew’s wife Angie provided a more detailed update on Reddit. In her optimistic message, she says:
Hello all!
Thank you for all the well wishes, prayers, good vibes, and happy thoughts.
Peter is indeed in the hospital with pneumonia.
He will make a full recovery, and hope to be discharged within a few days. Doctors are incredibly happy with his improvements.
Sorry for the absence, we left our tablets at home, so we have been unable to post to reddit for a bit. I’ll make sure he pops in later in the day.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!
Love,
Angie Mayhew
Mayhew, 70, is set to get back into the Chewie suit for Star Wars: Episode VII –The Force Awakens, so keep sending those good vibes. And maybe a joyful Chewbacca cry for good measure.
