When it comes to Ricky Gervais, at times it is hard to separate the parody from the reality. Is Ricky Gervais really being kind of a fool, or was it all just one big, elaborate joke? His upcoming mockumentary focused on his character from The Office, called David Brent: Life on the Road is clearly a joke, but other times? I dunno. Gervais has some opinions about the rise of Donald Trump that leads perfectly into this new video of Gervais on The Tonight Show.
While out promoting Special Correspondents, the new Gervais film on Netflix, he appeared on Jimmy Fallon, EW reports. You see, the Internet is all about impressions, with videos of YouTubers doing viral impressions becoming a new craze of sorts, which led to Fallon asking for Gervais to do some. So while Fred Armisen recently wowed Conan O’Brien with his accents, Gervais opted to do the exact opposite with his impressions.
Now, clearly he’s not trying to do actual impressions. It’s a joke, but the Trump-esque lines prior tip his hat a bit. “The reason I don’t do accents — it’s not that I can’t — it’s that I can’t be bothered,” he said. “I’m a brilliant impressionist.” The last line got quite the rise out of the audience, recognizing the similar tones from Donald Trump speeches. So was this a scathing parody of the potential Republican nominee, or just Gervais being Gervais?
