Rihanna is perhaps the only person that could profess her deep love for the Star Trek universe whilst rocking a tee donning imagery from the series and not look like the archetypical nerd seen in all ’80s movies.
In a clip promoting the upcoming film, Star Trek Beyond, the effortlessly cool Rihanna boasts how previous iterations of the franchise have always, “been a part of [her] life.” Talking about the OG Star Trek series, the “Work” singer asserted that “it only took me one episode to fall in love with this other world that I couldn’t understand, but felt like I could relate to.”
Now with superstar status and powerful vocals to match, the 28-year-old Barbadian singer lends her voice to the soundtrack of the new film. Featured in the trailer of the latest adaptation of the famed sci-fi series, the hauntingly beautiful “Sledgehammer” sung by the superstar and written by “Cheap Thrills” artist Sia, plays mellifluously in the background. As Rihanna describes the tune as, “big, impactful, very emotional, dramatic…” There’s really no better way to describe it.
Produced by J.J. Abrams and starring a slew of big names from Zoe Saldana and Chris Pine and the late Anton Yelchin, you can catch what’s sure to be an epic film upon its release on July 22.
