Zoinks! It looks like Scooby-Doo and that gang of meddling kids are going to be returning to movie theaters. The animated feature is in development over at Warner Bros. and Variety is reporting the producers behind the highly successful live-action films — Charles Roven and Richard Suckle — are on board once again. Joining them is Allison Abbate, a producer whose credits include Fantastic Mr. Fox, Corpse Bride and Frankenweenie.
The movie is set to be helmed by Tony Cervone, also known as the guy who brought Space Jam to the world. The feature will be housed under the Warner Animation Group which received a nice bump last year with the release of The LEGO Movie.
Warner Bros.’ president of creative development, Greg Silverman, expressed his excitement in bringing Scooby-Doo back, by saying, “Like countless fans, I have always loved the Hanna-Barbera cast of characters. As one of their most famous brand ambassadors, Scooby-Doo will take the lead in reintroducing this pantheon of enduringly popular animated stars on a grand scale with an exciting new movie.”
The yet-to-be-titled Scooby-Doo feature is set to hit theaters on Sept. 21, 2018.
