President Barack and First Lady Michelle Obama may be one of the cutest couples to ever live in the White House, but have you ever wondered how the presidential power couple met? Southside With You, a film that chronicles Barack and Michelle’s first date, will be hitting the big screen this summer, and the movie’s first trailer was released Thursday.
The film, which stars Tika Sumpter as a 25-year-old Michelle Robinson and Parker Sawyers as a young Barack, received positive reviews at Sundance earlier this year. John Legend is an executive producer on the film.
The soon-to-be “First Couple,” have an all-day date driving around Chicago’s South Side in the summer of 1989, where Michelle grew up. Michelle, who was already a practicing lawyer at the time, was reluctant to go out with “summer associate” Barack at first, but her mind quickly changed.
In the trailer, the couple visit an art museum, see Spike Lee’s Do The Right Thing, go to a community event where Barack makes a speech, and they talk dreamily about their future goals–they even share an ice cream cone and a first kiss. The movie already seems like it will be too adorable for words.
Southside With You is set to be released in theaters on August 26.
