When Star Trek Beyond hits theaters this week, it will be the 13th film in the franchise — the third installment of the rebooted series — and it looks like it’s going to be action-packed. The latest tease of the film just dropped and it’s definitely less “live long and prosper” and more “cowabunga dude.” While the trailer is mostly made up of clips we’ve already seen, it does feature some new stuff; namely, John Cho being a complete bada**.
Getting sassy with Captain Kirk, staring down Idris Elba’s lizard-faced villain and using the USS Enterprise as his own personal surfboard in order to ride giant waves in outer space; Sulu’s definitely grown a pair for this movie and we are here for it. Of course, the trailer does feature other stuff, like Chris Pine shirtless, Simon Pegg cracking jokes and Karl Urban being pessimistic as usual, but who cares? Sulu takes a spaceship and rides a wave with it … IN SPACE.
We probably shouldn’t be that surprised. Director Justin Lin is known for being able to create pretty cool action sequences involving people and vehicles – see any of the Fast and the Furious movies as proof – but if all of the fairly positive reviews from critics and that impressive Rotten Tomatoes score haven’t convinced you to go see the film already, hopefully this trailer will.
