Get ready Disney fans, because a live-action remake based on the 1963 animated classic The Sword In The Stone is coming. This announcement seems to be in line with the company’s recent move to create updated versions of their beloved cartoon movie library.
Now, THR is reporting that the production has nabbed Bryan Cogman — a writer and producer best known for his work on HBO’s Game of Thrones — to write the film’s script:
Stone, the final movie released before Walt Disney’s death, told of a young King Arthur who is being mentored by Merlin.
The feature is loosely based on the T.H. White’s novel of the same name, which later became part of White’s multi-book Arthurian fantasy The Once and Future King.
A multiple WGA award nominee for his work on Game of Thrones, Cogman is no stranger to the fantasy genre. Currently, he is working on Fox’s movie adaptation of the popular fantasy card game Magic: The Gathering and previously adapted The False Prince for Paramount.
