The holidays are all about family. And really, what says family quite like international time traveling conspiracies, sudden violent death from above, and Michael Fassbender’s hidden blade? That’s what Fox is banking on with the new release date for Assassin’s Creed.
You might remember that the Assassin’s Creed movie has had a few production problems, as it was originally supposed to arrive next year. Now it’s been pushed to December 21st, 2016, which is a fairly plum date for an untested franchise.
It’s an interesting show of faith in a video game movie. Historically, movies based on video games have not precisely lit the box office on fire and in truth, Fox might be hedging their bets a bit. According to /Film, Fox’s big Oscar release The Greatest Show On Earth, starring Hugh Jackman, will be arriving in theaters just four days later.
That said, Fox is gangbusters on video games at the moment. Despite the last one being received with critical brickbats and audience apathy, Hitman is getting a reboot that arrives this year. Still, we hope we’ll see a bit more out of the movie fairly soon. Just… tell Fassbender to keep it tucked away, all right? Somebody might get hurt if he’s waving that thing around.
