With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Spider-Man: Homecoming just around the corner, you’d think Marvel Studios already had its hands full. Think again, because the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s 2017 offerings aren’t limited to a sequel to one of its most popular films and a multi-studio re-re-boot. There’s also the Taika Waititi-directed Thor: Ragnarok, which just dropped its first teaser to the surprise of just about everyone on Monday morning. The third (and final?) outing for Asgard’s favorite son won’t hit theaters until November 3, but if this short preview is any indication, that won’t be soon enough.
From the villainous Hela’s (Cate Blanchett) comics-inspired look and the Grandmaster’s exquisite Jeff Goldblum impression, to the destruction of Mjölnir and Thor’s duel with the Hulk — this teaser has everything. It’s even got the perfect song to set the tone for the Thor: Ragnarok story: Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song.” Though let’s be honest, this teaser trailer ends with the ultimate stinger when a seemingly depressed and powerless Thor first encounters his former Avengers pal in the Grandmaster’s arena. “Yes!” he screams to the surprise of everyone in the stands. “We know each other. He’s a friend from work!”
Apparently the Hulk’s memories of the pair’s working relationship aren’t as nice as Thor’s, because the sentiment doesn’t stop the green meanie from doing his thing.
