2018’s ‘Transformers’ Movie Will Be A Spinoff Starring The Lovable Bumblebee

Last week, we delivered the news that Paramount, inspired by Disney’s Star Wars money-printing machine, is transforming Transformers into an annual franchise. But how are they going to be able to do a Transformers movie every year? Michael Bay needs time off to direct meaningful passion projects like Pain & Gain!

Well, taking another page from Star Wars, Paramount is going to be doing Transformers spinoff movies. As revealed by Hasbro, the first spinoff arrives in 2018 and will focus on Bumblebee…

“This summer we worked closely with a talented team of A-list screenwriters to map out the future of the Transformers cinematic universe, and as Brian announced earlier, things kick off in a major way in 2017 with the release of Transformers 5 in June. And we’re working on a spin-off movie centered around Bumblebee for 2018 and the next chapter for 2019.”

Hmm, I suppose Bumblebee is the most likable of the Michael Bay robots in disguise, but he also doesn’t talk and is portrayed as having the intelligence of a puppy. Sounds like this Transformers movie might be kind of bad! Crazy, I know. Maybe I’m just mad the first spinoff isn’t Beast Wars.

Bumblebee: Chronicles of a Peeing Robot Car is set to arrive June 8, 2018.
