This trailer includes graphic violence, nudity and swearing.
Over the years, we’ve had some entries of note in the crime/thriller genre. Gone Baby Gone, The Town and the renowned Heat immediately come to mind (feel free to add more in the comments). All of these films have succeeded due to nearly everything hitting on all cylinders: The writing, the direction, the acting and the timing of production. And Yahoo! Movies has just shown us another film that might be worthy of inclusion.
Triple 9 is a crime/thriller that hinges on an intense storyline of corruption, betrayal and graphic violence. The film’s script was penned by new screenwriter Matt Cook (who is writing and selling screenplays like crazy right now) and helmed by The Road director John Hillcoat (Ghosts… of the Civil Dead, The Proposition). Cook’s writing is new, but it seems Hillcoat has been matched nicely with an aggressively gritty story. But this is where Hillcoat flourishes. He’s an uncompromising filmmaker who has a thorough understanding of intertwined storylines, especially ones that deal with family and bloodshed. This pairing of screenwriter and director will be exciting to see on the big screen, especially after seeing this trailer.
There’s also one more aspect that makes this film standout: The cast. Woody Harrelson, Kate Winslet, Casey Affleck, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Anthony Mackie, Aaron Paul and Norman Reedus in the same film?
Yes, we want this movie and we want it now. With a talented crew, a stellar cast and a plot that is more applicable than ever right now, Triple 9 can’t get here fast enough.
