It’s a three-day weekend, and Hollywood is… barely showing up, with two movies. Let’s take a look, shall we?
The Transporter Refueled
Yep, they’re rebooting franchises that are barely more than a decade old, now. The basic idea remains the same, though; our hero is a cross between the UPS guy and a stunt driver who always operates by strict rules, that the demands of Hollywood screenwriting will naturally require him to violate over the course of 90 minutes. It will also require him to perform what amounts to martial arts with a car, most of which is probably impossible, but still pretty cool. That said, the franchise might need Jason Statham’s charisma, or at least ability to beat people up efficiently.
A Walk In The Woods
Bill Bryson’s book detailing his attempt to both hike the Appalachian Trail and reconnect with an old friend is rife with wit, humor, style and clever asides. The movie… is not, according to reviews. On the other hand, watching Nick Nolte and Robert Redford essentially play themselves might be a good way to ditch any family so you can watch The Transporter in peace. Or you could go see Straight Outta Compton again: The box office results should be interesting come Tuesday.
