A rumor’s been going around for awhile that George Miller (Mad Max: Fury Road) may direct Man of Steel 2, although followup rumors claimed it wouldn’t be filmed any time soon and then only if Miller still wants to do a superhero movie. Now the sequel is looking less and less likely, as Zack Snyder is saying his Batman v Superman is basically Man of Steel 2 anyway. On the upside, does this mean Miller’s doing another Mad Max instead? *flamethrower guitar riff*
Snyder made the statement to Canoe during another interview about a Doritos contest. (At least he didn’t insult Blankman this time.) Besides saying he wouldn’t have been surprised if someone told him during 2004’s Dawn of the Dead that he would one day direct Justice League because he was already really into comic books at the time (specifically Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns), he also answered a question about the fate of Man of Steel 2:
“I think in a way Batman V Superman is Man of Steel 2,” said Snyder, making it sound like a standalone Superman sequel is definitely not DC’s highest priority right now. “Justice League is kind of the transcendent, knights-of-the-round-table of the story. It’d be interesting to think about what a standalone Superman movie might be.”
*Sees ball lovingly placed on tee, begging to be hit.*
*Shakes head resignedly, shuffles out of room.*
*Bursts back into room moments later, swinging a Nerf bat wildly*
“EVERYONE WHO SAW MAN OF STEEL WONDERS WHAT A STANDALONE SUPERMAN MOVIE MIGHT BE, TOOOOOO.”
