You know, I have to admit — there have been plenty of times in my life where, bored at home and infused with a sudden rush of energy, I’ll pull the curtains closed, turn down the lights and just dance my ass off right there in my living room, bedroom or kitchen. And I know I’m not the only one.
When I do this — I’d say I average at least one good in-home dance session a week, each lasting 15 to 20 minutes or so — it feels liberating. It feels free and natural, like it’s something I as a human being am supposed to be doing, yet, I don’t think I could do it with the same vigor in public. My self-conscious would get the best of me. What’s that old saying — dance like nobody’s watching? Well, that’s good and all, but it’s easier said then done. Unless, of course, it’s after midnight and there’s booze and drugs involved. But that’s a totally different situation entirely.
However, such is not the case with Melvin G of Oklahoma. He will shamelessly dance in broad daylight in your parking lots and empty office park courtyards, and there’s nothing you can do to stop him. And we’re all better off because of it.
Keep on dancin’, Melvin G. Keep on dancin’.
