Iggy Azalea, who’s just happy to have any Grammy nominations at all, thinks her fame and skin color are about to get her into hot water. The Australian rapper is up for three categories, including Best Rap Album. Considering the raging hot takes thrown at Macklemore and Ryan Lewis for their wins last year, Azalea’s worries aren’t unfounded, but she seems to have a good attitude about it:
“I think backlash comes no matter what skin color you are,” Iggy said, when asked if she’s potentially ready to deal with the backlash Macklemore faced following last year’s winning streak in rap categories.
“Success is polarizing and you just can’t have one without the other,” she continued. “That’s something that comes with it. It’s the price you pay for having all the amazing things that you’re afforded and if that is the price you pay for a Grammy, I will sign that check.” (Via MTV)
I can’t help but notice the irony of Azalea’s last line about signing checks as payment for Grammy Awards. Sure, she’s speaking figuratively here (paying for fame and whatnot), but still. Calling it now — if Azalea wins in a rap category, some blogger somewhere is going to write a hot take based entirely on that final sentence. Out of context, of course.
