Dave Grohl continued his affable crusade against modernity at a recent Foo Fighters concert in Portland. Before launching into “Big Me,” Grohl invited the crowd to celebrate the torch song and added that he’d prefer lighters over cellphones.
“This is a sweet, sweet occasion. Ladies and gentlemen, I would like for you to light this rock show with any sort of illuminating device you are holding in your hands. Cigarette lighters are preferred, because that’s the f*cking old school sh*t. I’d rather it look like a Scorpions video than a Deadmau5 video.”
Check out the video up top, where Grohl also discusses a conspiracy theory that claims the singer is faking his broken leg.
“I have a note from my doctor! Although I’m really into the idea of a conspiracy theory, I think it’s f*ckin’ rad. What if, what if I didn’t break my f*ckin’ leg? What if I jumped off stage and I fell on the ground, and I made it all look like it was a f*ckin’ emergency? And then they dragged me off to the side, and the band keeps playing, and then 10 minutes later, I magically f*cking reappear on stage. And then I get somebody else’s X-ray of a broken leg, and I make it into a T-shirt, and we make millions of f*cking dollars. And I design this f*cking awesome throne, so I don’t have to f*cking stand up any more! Imagine that.”
Grohl explained to Foo Fighters concert newbies that they should settle in for more of these asides. In Grohl’s own words, “I got a big f*cking mouth and I like to talk.”
