Is Chester Bennington done with 90s alt-rock crusaders Stone Temple Pilots? The band’s former frontman seems to think so.
Singer/wiggling enthusiast Scott Weiland made the claim of a Bennington/STP split while chatting with Alternative Press for what’s been a pretty quotable interview. This revelation came up as the interviewer asked about the legacy of Stone Temple Pilots with the Linkin Park vet at the helm. His response: “He’s not in the band any more.”
Nudged for more information, Weiland said, “I heard he’s not in the band anymore.” According to Weiland, Bennington’s got a more lucrative gig he could be doing.
“[Chester’s] got a band where he gets paid $700,000 a night with, and with STP, the brand is kind of falling apart, which is a shame.”
Yup, nothing more natural than a 48-year-old rock dude talking about the value of brands.
Giving this whole story an extra weird twist is Highly Suspect vocalist Johnny Stevens stating on Twitter that STP guitarist Dean DeLeo tried to recruit him to join the band over the summer.

Stone Temple Pilots haven’t put out any official word about whether or not it’s the end of the Bennington Era (2013-15), but we should have a clue tomorrow about where things are at when the band appears (or doesn’t appear) on Jimmy Kimmel Live! for Mashup Monday. They’ll be performing as Joss Stone Temple Pilots on the ABC late night show, so maybe Joss will just offer a shrug and stay on as a replacement vocalist. It might be a nice change of pace for everyone involved.
