The Beatles are immortal. The music of the Fab Four will never cease to dominate charts, and now the top songs played on streaming services are being overwhelmed by Lennon/McCartney compositions.
On December 24th, The Beatles released their catalog (or should I say ‘catalogue’ in their British honor?) to Spotify and other streaming services. In less than 48 hours, the usual favorites shot to the top of playlists everywhere, because “Let It Be” (1.5 million plays already) is good all year round, even at Christmas.
According to Billboard, the top 10 Beatles tracks in the U.S. are as follows:
1. “Come Together”
2. “Hey Jude”
3. “Here Comes The Sun”
4. “Let It Be”
5. “Twist And Shout”
6. “Blackbird”
7. “I Want To Hold Your Hand”
8. “In My Life”
9. “She Loves You”
10. “Help!”
With the global Spotify Beatles leaderboard here:
1. “Come Together”
2. “Let It Be”
3. “Hey Jude”
4. “Love Me Do”
5. “Yesterday”
6. “Here Comes The Sun”
7. “Help!”
8. “All You Need Is Love”
9. “I Want To Hold Your Hand”
10. “Twist And Shout”
The Beatles have been added to over 673,000 playlists in just their first two days on Spotify, and considering that the vast majority of streaming music users are under 35-years-old, it’s clear that John, Paul, George, and Ringo are as timeless as they ever were. Even with those deep cuts.
On a personal note, the third most popular song with 1.25 million plays in just two days is the Harrison-penned “Here Comes The Sun.” Take that, Paul and John!
