A Tribe Called Quest just delivered their final album as a group last week, but it won’t the be the last time fans hear from them. In fact, it’s quite the opposite — the group plans to go on the road soon.
In a new interview with Billboard, Q-Tip confirms ATCQ’s next move. “This is our last record, and we’ll probably do a world tour,” he said. “After that, that’s it, for the rest of our lives.”
Q-Tip didn’t share any specifics regarding how it would all go down but touring in support of the album makes sense. On Monday, it was announced they’d signed a new deal with talent agency Creative Arts Agency, a sign that taking their act across the country was likely.
Even though they’ll be missing the late Phife Dawg, the new album, We Got It From Here … Thank You 4 Your Service, has enough guest features from friends and close collaborators like Busta Rhymes, Consequence, Talib Kweli and more that could fill in for various dates and regions. Above all, fans have welcomed their return with open arms and would probably love to see them perform the new material live. Their two incredible ‘SNL‘ performances are proof enough they still got it.
News of the tour comes as Tribe looks to land their first number one album with We Got It from Here. The first week projects point to the release scoring 120,000 equivalent album units, enough to place it at the top of the Billboard 200.
