Have you heard of this Adele character? We have it on good authority that she’s very much “a thing” in today’s popular music. If you have, you’ll be happy to know that she’s smashed another record without much trouble.
The English megastar, who has done blockbuster business with her new album 25, now reigns as the biggest draw in BBC YouTube history. (No, she’s not on Luther BUT COULD YOU IMAGINE???) That obscenely charming video of Adele going undercover as “Jenny” to interact with Adele impersonators has been a colossal hit for the British broadcaster scoring over 38 million views since being uploaded on November 20.
The massive view total is pretty impressive (everyone just wants to powerhang with Jenny!) and it’s a large enough number to set a new record for most views on BBC’s YouTube channel. The previous titleholder? That’d be 2013’s combo performance from Will Smith, Jaden Smith, Alfonso Ribero and DJ Jazzy Jeff on The Graham Norton Show. (It’s also very good.)
One of the lookalikes that appeared in Adele’s very viewable video, the fantastically monikered Talullah Windmill, was happy to gush about their experience co-starring in the segment:
“I am amazed the sketch has been so popular. Even though the day was one I’ll never forget, I never thought it would be watched by so many and be this well received. All the comments left are so lovely, it is truly overwhelming.”
Go ahead, watch it again. You’ve earned it.
