Beyonce’s Lemonade album has largely taken over the internet this weekend with folks first marveling at how this lady manages to drop surprise releases without a traditional publicity tour. Granted, Bey did premiere some trailers, but she didn’t do weeks and months of interviews and magazine covers like most pop stars do. Then fans flipped out because everyone assumed Bey was trashing Jay-Z for stepping out on her. Stuff like this tends to make people believe Hova’s in a whole world of trouble.
Soon enough, the #BeyHive got wind of who “Becky with the good hair” might be, and they’re now making Rachel Roy’s life a living hell. Beyonce will likely dominate the media for the 24 to 48 hours as other connections and references emerge. She’s a savvy artist and knows exactly how to play her audience, which is why people can’t stop paying attention. Did Jay-Z really cheat? Who knows, but one would assume he’s in on this entire plan, considering how the Lemonade album launched on Tidal.
Anyhoodle, the Lemonade short film first premiered on HBO, and now people are drawing a connection to an HBO property, True Detective. Fans of the show (its first season, at least) will recognize this setting as Fort Macomb, which was also the Louisiana setting for the mystical Carcosa.

Given how the show’s disappointing second season resulted in a lackluster reception, Bey observers are cracking jokes and holding out hope that Lemonade is really a lead-in to True Detective‘s next season.

Beyonce is an odd choice to headline True Detective season 3 but so far I'm really digging it. #lemonade #truedetective

Social media isn’t digging too deep into the show’s mythology just yet. The think pieces may eventually arrive, but for now, people simply want to see Beyonce in True Detective‘s universe. Not the worst idea, right?
