Bonaroo is like the Brooklyn hipster of music festivals. There are lots of indie bands, herbal drug cocktails, au natural hygiene methods and recycling bins. There’s also the way they choose to announce their talent line-up. While other music fests like Coachella and Lollapalooza might just blast their lists of performers via a totally generic tweet or Facebook post, Bonaroo is bringing the power to the people, literally.
The music festival, which takes place June 11-14 in its normal Manchester, Tennessee stomping grounds, is giving fans their 15 seconds (or however long it takes a tweet to fade into obscurity in someone’s feed) by letting them announce who’s appearing at their summer music bash. Anyone wanting to get in on the action can call 1-844-ROO-2015. If you make it past the hold music, you get to learn the name of an artist scheduled to perform at this year’s gathering and you get the added joy of sharing it with all of your friends on social media.
Of course, the music fest is insisting fans include the hashtag #bonnaroo because unless you’re Chris Pratt, no normal person has enough followers to make this whole shindig worthwhile. For anyone who doesn’t get a golden ticket (er.. tweet?) you can check out the feed at Bonnaroo’s website which is rounding up all of the announcements. They’ve made this sort of creepy video to explain everything in case you need a trippy visual aid.
Some notables that have already been tweeted out include Hozier, Tove Lo, Ben Harper and Florence and the Machine.
