To celebrate the 15th anniversary of Sisqo’s Earth-shattering summertime hit, “Thong Song,” Baltimore radio station WTMD asked seven bands to cover the track. The result is… very interesting to say the least. With genres spanning from hip hop to metal, with some folk in between, it was sure to get interesting.
After hearing all seven versions you’ll still enjoy the original the most, but these covers are definitely worthy of a few listens. The Manly Deeds turn the upbeat track into a slower Americana song that sounds like it could have been passed down from generation to generation. One of the most interesting takes comes from Thee Lexington Arrows whose lead singer manages to avoid saying the word “thong” throughout the entire “Thong Song” cover. Experimental group The Soft Pink Truth’s cover will make you think of the happy song in a much, much darker light.
