When Denis Leary appeared on The Tonight Shoe Starring Jimmy Fallon last night, he was there to promote the second season of his FX series, Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll. After the story he told about an encounter with Rod Stewart, it’s quite clear that he is more than qualified to talk about all three of those things.
The story begins when Leary was hosting the Fashion Rocks awards. He was set to introduce Rod Stewart and Ron Wood before they came out and sang the classic “Maggie May.” But when Stewart walked into the dressing room, Leary decided to catch a glimpse at his world famous rock ‘n roll bum. It would have likely been fine had he stopped there, but then Stewart turned around and Leary managed to catch a peek at his… umm… first name?
Stewart quickly caught him sneaking a peek, and the situation got more awkward from there. At that point, Leary had to introduce Stewart and Wood, and he mistakenly called him Cock Stewart. This special was aired on tape delay, so sadly, we never got to see it live. For now, all we can do is take Leary’s word for it and acknowledge this as one of the Great Awkward Moments in Rock ‘n Roll History.
