One of the best albums released thus far this year has been G Perico’s All Blue, which dropped just last month. If you are as much of a fan of vintage G-Funk vibes as I am, you seriously owe it yourself to give it a listen. Today, the So-Cal rapper shared the latest visual from that project for the song “Turnin’ Corners,” which’ll give you a small sample of what Perico is all about.
Much like the last video he released, “How You Feel,” this latest clip finds the police working hard to nail Perico for some unnamed offense. It opens with a couple of officers talking to a woman, who apparently agrees to give the rapper up. The next scene moves to Perico and the informant chilling in an opulent crib, while the police move in with assault weapons. Before they can take him in however, he’s already gone, in his car, “Turnin’ corners through the ghetto / Bust a left, right, we flyin’ straight through the red light.”
G Perico has risen as one of the most exciting new voices in the burgeoning rap renaissance centered around Los Angeles. At the top of the pecking order sits Kendrick Lamar, who re-made his case as the greatest rapper alive with his latest album DAMN. There’s also YG, Vince Staples, ScHoolboy Q, and Open Mike Eagle to name just a handful of the other standouts. While Atlanta continues to churn out hitmaker after hitmaker, and Chicago and New York have been holding it down for a minute, something special seems to be underway in L.A.
