Hey, remember when George W. Bush was President and how he was always saying and doing foolish things, like when he waved at Stevie Wonder, or when he invented the word “subliminable?” Well, if you’re nostalgic for those days, here’s a story for you.
Specifically, the dude couldn’t keep his Bonos straight. When Bono of U2 fame came to the White House to discuss collaborating on AIDS relief, he thought it was Sonny Bono, from used-to-be-married-to-Cher fame, according to the new documentary Countdown to Zero:
“I guess somebody thought it’d be cool to have Bono in the Oval Office,” Bush said in the doc. “They must’ve had a Bono record or two. I certainly didn’t suggest it.”
And he didn’t have his Bonos straight at first.
“Somebody walked in and said ‘Bono’s coming. You do know who he is?’ And then I looked at them and said, ‘Sure, he’s married to Cher.’”
Okay, this isn’t the biggest mistake George W. Bush ever made (no, really), but it is kinda funny. Mostly because Sonny Bono died three years before Bush became President. Anyway, you can catch the teaser for Countdown to Zero below.
