Makonnen Finally Confirms That He’s Gay

The Taylor Bennet effect? Just a few days after Chance The Rapper’s little brother announced to fans he was bisexual, “Tuesday” singer Makonnen, formerly, ILoveMakonnen, finally busts “out the closet” and reveals he’s gay. And just so we’re clear, gay as in queer, homosexual, likes the same sex.

The Red Dragon made the announcement while you were sleeping Friday morning, cleverly tweeting out, “As a fashion icon, I can’t tell you about everybody else’s closet, I can only tell u about mine, and it’s time I’ve come out.” And following that tweet with up something I can post and call news. “[…] since y’all love breaking news, here’s some old news to break, I’m gay. And now I’ve told you about my life, maybe you can go [live] yours.”

His announcement isn’t all that surprising. Rumors of Makonnen’s sexuality as been circulating for years. In his 2015 New York Times feature, Drake’s former artist said he didn’t want to be labeled anything because “all that’s doing is dividing us.” Saying, “The rap world thinks I’m gay. A lot of people out there do. They think I’m a homosexual, which is not a problem. I don’t want to say I’m gay, I’m straight, I’m bisexual or any of that, because that’s just. […] Who cares? All that’s doing is dividing us.”

Last year, Mak slammed homophobia in hip-hop and said that while he “may not personally be gay,” he was here to stand up and fight for acceptance.

One thing about hip-hop and rap that really gets on my nerve is that they got so much sh*t to say about gays, lesbians and so anti-gay, all that is just a lot of sh*t where they want to say f*ggot and gay bashing. All these designers that y’all are spending on are the gayest niggas in the world. And if you don’t know that you’re the dumbest n*ggas in the world. So y’all need to stop saying all that gay this, gay that like it’s something wrong with that sh*t when your bitch ass feels better about themselves in this gay designer shoes or this gay designer clothes. So you going to be bashing gay people, you know what I’m saying? I’m here to break all that bullsh*t. I may not personally be gay but I got gay friends, and people on earth that do what the f*ck they do and they need to be accepted as well.
